CHAIRMAN ROKITA LEADS HEARING ON SCHOOL CHOICE

Washington, D.C. – Today, Chairman Todd Rokita led a Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education hearing entitled “Helping Students Succeed Through the Power of School Choice.”  The hearing focused on efforts underway across the country to provide parents more options when it comes to their children’s education.  Chairman Rokita has been a strong advocate for school choice since joining Congress in 2011.

“The purpose of this Subcommittee’s efforts has always been to make sure every child has the opportunity to receive an excellent education.  That’s a mantra we repeat often around here, and for good reason.  I remain optimistic that this Congress will choose students and advance policies to ensure every child receives an excellent education.  I know that when parents have a choice, kids have a chance.”

This hearing follows Rep. Rokita’s re-introduction of the Creating Hope and Opportunities for Individuals and Communities through Education (CHOICE) Act last week.  The CHOICE Act will expand educational opportunities for students from military families, low-income families, and the disabled receiving educational services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  This is the second consecutive Congress in which Rep. Rokita has introduced the CHOICE Act, having also introduced in January, 2015.
