ROKITA STATEMENT ON THE RECENT SHOOTING IN KANSAS

Washington, D.C. – Rep. Rokita released the following statement in response to the recent attack on two Indian men in Kansas.

“As Americans we recognize that all of us are created equal and with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  Recent incidents of violence and hate have no place in the American dialogue and do not reflect who we are.  Racism in any form, against any community – be it Indian-Americans, Jewish-Americans, or Muslim-Americans – is abhorrent.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Srinivas Kuchibhotla and the continuing recovery of Alok Madasani.  I recognize the extraordinary contributions of Indian-Americans and Indians to not only Indiana, but also to our entire nation.”

Rep. Rokita is an active member of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.  Last year, he hosted a group of fellow Hoosiers and close friends from the Indiana Indian community to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s joint session of Congress.  Earlier this year, he addressed the audience at Indiaspora’s 2017 Inagural Gala, which celebrated the Indian-American Members of Congress and friends of the community.
