Rokita Battles Senate Democrats by Co-Sponsoring the Government Shutdown Prevention Act

Representative Todd Rokita (R-IN) battled the Democrat-controlled Senate this week with his co-sponsorship of the Government Shutdown Prevention Act (GSPA), which promises government funding if the Senate fails to pass a new measure before the end of the current spending resolution on April 6th. The Act says that the original short term funding resolution, H.R.1, becomes law in the absence of a Senate funding bill.

Rokita Votes to Restore Over $1Billion to Taxpayers

Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN) today completed a series of votes on two bills that together will slash $1.075 billion from the federal budget. The first bill, The FHA Refinance Program Termination Act (H.R. 830), stops the government from spending TARP money on an ineffective Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program. The program in question exists on $8 billion in TARP funds but has only refinanced 44 of the 500,000 loans it was intended for. TARP is a program in which the government borrowed billions of dollars from American taxpayers to bail out the financial sector.

Rokita Response to Senate Passage of Two-Week Continuing Resolution

Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN) yesterday voted for H.J.Res 44, which will keep the government running until March 18, 2011. The bill is a two-week continuing resolution (CR) that cuts $4 billion from the federal budget, a pro-rated version of the full CR House Republicans offered previously. It passed in the House yesterday by 335-91 and passed the Senate today by 91-9. Rokita released the following statement:

Rokita Introduces Cost Effective Congressional Safety Program
