In this week's Rokita Report
On Thursday, I met with Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. As the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, I am committed to working with President Donald Trump and his administration to empower parents and our local communities in making education decisions.
I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary DeVos and the Trump Administration to help our children receive the best possible education.
Our discussion focused on how we can continue to work together for the good of our nation's children. I look forward to continuing our dialogue about the future of our education systems and their impact on our students.
Additionally, I shared with her both my School Safety Reports that my office developed from our School Safety Summits. It was a great honor to bring information and best practices from our communities to the Secretary of Education.
On Tuesday, I introduced a resolution condemning Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, for his hateful rhetoric. He has continued to promote ideas that create animosity and anger towards Jewish Americans, and the Jewish religion. The resolution I introduced condemns this language and all manifestations of expressions of racism, anti-Semitism, and ethnic or religious intolerance.
Recently, Farrakhan gave a speech where he said “White folks are going down. And Satan is going down. And Farrakhan, by God’s grace, has pulled the cover off of that Satanic Jew and I’m here to say your time is up, your world is through." These comments were in addition to Farrakhan's career of anti-Semitism, praise for Hitler, blaming the Jews for 9/11, and other disgusting and repulsive language. Disturbingly, current Members of Congress have met with Farrakhan recently and some have even expressed a willingness to meet with him again.
There is no place in our civil discourse for Farrakhan's clear anti-Semitism and hate for another group of human beings. I urge my House colleagues to join me in condemning Louis Farrakhan's hateful and anti-Semitic attacks, while also reaffirming our nation's commitment to our Jewish neighbors and our greatest ally, the nation of Israel. Ten of my colleagues have already done so.
Last week's incredible jobs report showed that 313,000 new jobs have been added to the economy. This is the latest indicator of the success of President Trump's efforts to create a better climate for business growth. Tax reform and his aggressive roll back of job-killing regulations are working and this jobs report is proof of that.
Thanks to these efforts, Hoosiers are seeing more money in their pockets, higher wages, job growth, and a roaring economy. This job report shows that businesses are ready to move on from the failed policies of the Obama administration that had been holding back the American workers.
Hoosiers have been hearing the good economic news. Indiana companies have announced expansion plans, bonuses for their employees, and lower prices. These include AndyMark in Kokomo adding new employees, 8,000 employees of Lowe's who will be receiving bonuses, the reduced rates that NIPSCO's ratepayers will be paying, and many more.
Thank you for your continued interest in Congress and for supporting my efforts to bring Hoosier common sense to Washington. Take care.
Sincerely,

Todd Rokita
