Rokita Report 11-29-11
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to update you on my work in the 112th Congress. I trust this finds you and your family well.
Last week (11/20 - 11/26/11)
Members of the House returned home last week. I was able to spend time visiting 4th District Hoosiers and then celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family. I hope that you had a safe and happy holiday.
This week (11/27 - 12/3/11)
The House will consider two Red Tape Rollback bills that will help to create jobs and reduce the size of our federal government. Also, we will consider an important bill that will eliminate taxpayer funding of presidential campaigns. It will be a busy month ahead as Congress works to finalize spending bills and wrap up any year-end legislation.
Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act, H.R. 3094-
This legislation, of which I am a proud co-author, will make great strides in protecting workers' rights from an ideology-driven Red Tape rule by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Particularly, this bill prevents "ambush elections" by ensuring there is ample notice for employees to vote on whether or not they would like to be represented by a union.
Reduce Federal spending and the deficit by terminating the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), H.R. 3463-
H.R. 3463 combines two bills that I co-authored. Through the presidential Election Campaign Fund, taxpayers are forced to fund presidential campaigns and party conventions. This common-sense legislation will stop federal funds for paying for campaign and convention expenses for any political party or candidate. It will also terminate the EAC, which I believe is long overdue.
Regulatory Accountability Act, H.R. 3010-
Another Red Tape Rollback piece of legislation, H.R. 3010 will have a big impact on small businesses. For the first time in over 10 years, we are going to reform and minimize regulation in the process used by federal agencies in issuing new regulations. Particularly, this bill will lower costs and improve the quality of regulations by requiring a more thorough evaluation of rules that impact our economy by more than $100 million. It will stop arbitrary orders and enacted rules.
