Reid Plan Fails to Address Debt Crisis

Jul 30, 2011 Issues: Spending Cuts and Debt

Today Rep. Todd Rokita voted against the Reid plan because it fails to address the debt crisis.

“Senator Reid’s plan is designed to maintain the unsustainable status quo that is bankrupting America.  It is full of phantom cuts and allows for an unprecedented debt ceiling increase without significant offsetting cuts.   We need a long-term solution like a balance budget amendment to reform the system that created this mess and provide current and future Americans with long-term peace of mind.

We have now put forward several serious plans that actually get to the root of our debt crisis by cutting spending and implementing permanent and structural reforms.  Unfortunately the President and the Senate are more interested in protecting their reckless spending and finding political cover next year than reaching a comprise that protects our economy and puts an end to the inter-generational theft that is stealing the future from our children and grandchildren.”
