Rokita’s Statement on the American Embassy Relocation to Jerusalem on Israel’s 70th Independence Day

DANVILLE, IN – Today, Congressman Todd Rokita released this statement in honor of Israel’s 70th Independence Day and for the dedication of the American Embassy in Jerusalem, Israel:

“The opening of the American Embassy in Jerusalem is a historic moment for both the United States and the nation of Israel,” said Congressman Todd Rokita. “As a Member of Congress, and a strong supporter of Israel, I have consistently stood for the recognition of Jerusalem as the Jewish state’s eternal capital. President Trump has delivered on his promise for Israel and we now recognize this reality on Israel’s 70th anniversary of independence.  We must always stand for Israel and recognize Jerusalem as the true capital of that great nation.”

The Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel and called for a relocation of the United State Embassy to Jerusalem by May 31, 1999.  The Act received overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress.  Today’s action shows President Trump’s commitment to the law and fulfilling promises that we made to our allies.
