Rokita on the Budget: We Must Restore Certainty

Washington, DC – Representative Todd Rokita (R-IN) responded to President Obama’s budget proposal today. He released the following statement:

“ I made a pledge to the American people last year to start saving them money in dramatic ways.  It wasn’t spin and it wasn’t politics as usual – something that can’t be said of our President’s new, debt-raising budget proposal.

I am taking debt killing votes with every opportunity and another slice of my pledge becomes reality this week. This fiscally responsible budget is a massive down payment on the commitment to drastically reduce discretionary funding in order to help our economy thrive and spur job creation. This cash saving strategy directly contrasts President Obama’s same old spend, tax and borrow budget of inefficiency and broken promises.

The President and his Administration pretend not to notice that the past two years have pushed our country into record setting debt. But I have news for the President:  we’ve noticed. The American people noticed too -- and they took action by electing a new crew in the face of that leadership failure.

The President’s budget reinforces failed policies again this year by advocating more job destroying spending, taxes and worst of all, at atmosphere of uncertainty for consumers and investors. We’ve been there and done that – and it’s time for a new plan to keep government intervention limited, markets free, and money in the hands of Americans who’ve earned it.”
