Rokita: Honoring Two Men Who Brought Peace In Times of Chaos

Rokita Honors 50th Anniversary of Robert Kennedy’s Speech for Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

DANVILLE, IN -- Today, Congressman Todd Rokita released this statement in honor of the 50th anniversary of Robert Kennedy’s deeply moving speech that he gave in Indianapolis on the day Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated:

Today we honor two men who brought peace in times of chaos, unity in a time of division, and love to those hearts burdened with grief,” said Congressman Todd Rokita. “We will never forget the poise and character of Robert Kennedy for putting aside politics on that fateful night 50 years ago and embracing the community of Indianapolis in a time of anguish and turmoil. He honored Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose commitment to service and justice was unparalleled in American history and was sorrowfully taken from our world too soon. It is an honor for Hoosiers to live in a state where such an historic speech took place.

Congressman Rokita, along with the Indiana delegation, have helped lead the Kennedy-King National Commemorative Site Act that designates the Landmark for Peace Memorial in Indianapolis, Indiana, as the Kennedy-King National Commemorative Site. The bill was signed into law by President Trump on Tuesday.
