Rokita Leads on Honest Budget Resolution

Apr 7, 2011 Issues: Economy and Jobs,

Washington, D.C.– Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN), a Member of the Budget Committee, released the following statement regarding the release of the Republican budget proposal today:

“Where the President has failed to lead, we have had the courage to tell the truth about America’s debt crisis – and propose honest solutions required to fix it.

The 2012 budget proposal is a significant first step toward restoring financial responsibility and stability to our nation. The U.S. borrows 42 cents of every dollar it spends. Then, it spends nearly 2/3rds of those dollars on interest caused by the borrowing and on social entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. All of these programs are insolvent or quickly becoming so.

This budget addresses these problems with real reforms that are big enough to make a difference. Just as important, it lays the groundwork for gradual reforms that preserve these programs and make the changes necessary to save them for future generations.

Americans are finally getting an honest and fact-based budget that has eluded them for years.”
